POODLE NAMES
The Poodle
The Poodle is an old breed and its region of origin is a matter of
contention. Most experts believe that the Poodle originated in either
Central Europe or Russia. However, poodles were mostly used
in France to retrieve waterfowl, but to do this, their coats required
clipping to allow them to easily swim through the water. The
Poodle's coat is hard and densely textured, often in tight clumps of
small curly ringlets. If left unattended, its coat will grow
out into thickly matted, ropelike cords. Poodles are often
clipped for show purposes as well, but only three clips are
acceptable. They are the "Puppy Clip" (for dogs one year of
age or younger), the "Continental" or "Lion clip" (having an
instantly-recognizable 'mane'), and the "English Saddle" clip (commonly
known for its leg bracelets). The standard poodle
is the largest of the breed, standing over 15 inches high and
weighing anywhere from 40 to 55 pounds. The miniature poodle
is between 10 and 15 inches tall and weighs 16 pounds. The
toy poodle is the smallest of the breed, standing 10 inches at the most
and weighing no more than a mere 7 pounds. Poodles are naturally people
oriented, excellent with children, easily trainable, and don't require
as much exercise as other hunting breeds.
